About Us
Phiar (pronounced “fire”) is developing the world’s fastest electronic devices (diodes, transistors and supporting devices) for a wide range of applications. Phiar is financed by Menlo Ventures, and currently is engaged with Motorola in a joint development agreement.
Phiar’s devices contain no semiconductor materials, yet offer 100% CMOS compatibility. Phiar uses nano-scale stacks of metals and insulators to create ultra-high frequency diodes, antennas and transistors.
The materials and manufacturing processes Phiar uses are familiar to CMOS foundries, keeping costs low.
The benefits of Phiar’s proprietary technology are low cost, high performance, and integrity with supporting electronics. Phiar delivers on these promises at frequencies from DC to 3 THz, enabling our partners to develop new capabilities ranging from wirelessly syncing large data files or streaming uncompressed HD video, to using radar to help reduce automotive collisions and even detecting skin cancer.
Phiar’s 10,000 sq. ft. facility includes the company’s clean room (R&D and pilot manufacturing), as well as test and measurement labs. Currently, Phiar’s strategy is to utilize existing foundry capacity for manufacturing, as well as licensing its intellectual property where appropriate.
